Culture Minister Marta Suplicy began an administrative reform at the National Library Foundation (NLF), the organization responsible for all book and reading policies in Brazil. On Wednesday, Mr. Galeno Amorim announced he was leaving the presidency. Ms. Suplicy appointed Renato Lessa, a sociologist at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV), to be the new President of the NLF.

On his Twitter account, Mr. Amorim stated: “I met with Minister Marta Suplicy and arranged my departure from the presidency of the National Library Foundation. I handed Ms Suplicy the program for recovery of the National Library, to prepare it for the coming years, with deadlines and resources. BRL $76 million will be invested in this first phase of the project, called BN +200, which has already begun and will last 30 months. Funds from the National Development Bank (BNDES) are already available. “
